How to Ship Pokémon Cards Safely

Sending Pokémon cards by post? Whether you’re sending a small selection of valuable cards or a larger collection for a trade in, good packaging helps protect your cards from bending, moisture and damage during transit.

Use the steps below to prepare your cards before sending them to Rare Zone or another buyer.

1. Protect Individual Valuable Cards

For rare, holo, ultra rare or higher-value cards, use multiple layers of protection.

  1. Place each card carefully into a penny sleeve.
  2. Place the sleeved card into a rigid toploader or other suitable card holder.
  3. If necessary, use a small piece of painter’s tape across the top of the toploader to prevent the card from sliding out.

Important: Never place adhesive tape directly onto a card or directly onto the surface of the sleeve.

2. Protect Groups of Cards

For larger quantities of lower-value or bulk cards, the priority is stopping the cards from moving around inside the package.

  • Keep cards in manageable stacks rather than one very large loose pile.
  • Use a suitable team bag, storage box or other secure packaging to keep each stack together.
  • For additional protection, sandwich stacks between pieces of sturdy cardboard.
  • Make sure the cards cannot move excessively inside the outer packaging.

Avoid applying excessive pressure to card stacks, as this can cause unnecessary bending or edge damage.

3. Choose Suitable Outer Packaging

The correct outer packaging depends on the size and value of your shipment.

Small number of cards

For a small number of cards, use a rigid mailer or a padded envelope with suitable internal protection.

Larger collection or trade in

For larger quantities, use a strong box with enough internal protection to prevent the contents from moving around during transit.

Bubble wrap or suitable void fill can be used around the protected cards to stop movement inside the box.

Avoid plain paper envelopes for unprotected cards. They provide very little protection against bending, crushing or damage during postal sorting.

4. Protect Against Movement

Movement inside the package is one of the easiest problems to prevent.

Before sealing your package, gently check that the cards cannot slide freely from one side to the other. Add appropriate packing material where necessary.

Your package should be secure without placing excessive pressure on the cards.

5. Check the Address Carefully

Double-check the delivery address before sending your cards.

  • Make sure the name and address are complete and clearly written.
  • Check that the postcode is correct.
  • Consider adding a return address to the outside of the package.

For higher-value shipments, we strongly recommend using a tracked postal service and keeping your proof of postage.

6. Include Your Trade In Details

If you’re sending cards to Rare Zone as part of a trade in, including your details inside the package can help us identify your shipment quickly.

We recommend including:

  • Your name
  • The email address used for your trade-in enquiry
  • Your trade-in or enquiry details, if applicable
  • Any relevant payment or payout preference

Do not include sensitive payment information such as full card numbers, passwords or banking login details.

7. Photograph Your Package Before Posting

For valuable collections, consider taking photographs of the cards and the completed package before handing it to the postal service.

Keep your postage receipt and any tracking information until the trade-in has been completed.

8. Sending a Trade In to Rare Zone

If you’re sending cards to Rare Zone, please do not send your collection before we have agreed the trade-in and provided the relevant instructions.
